Atarfe

Atarfe is surrounded by mountains and agricultural land. The village has a rich cultural heritage dating back to the Neolithic era. It is a well-known village in the province of Granada, with origins dating back to the 10th century BC — making it the earliest known settlement in the area. It has a population of around 15,400.

History of Atarfe

According to the authors Amador Díaz García and Manuel Barrios Aguilera, the name Atarfe comes from the Arabic word al-taraf, meaning 'point', which in the Granada dialect would be a- tarf. This is probably in reference to the nearby Castillejo and Tajo Colorao peaks. However, other sources suggest that it originates from the Arabic word artarf, meaning 'boundary', as the boundary of the old city of Elvira was located nearby

Very suitable for beginners and high handicappers, with its open tee and green positions, the course also offers challenges for the more experienced player. The layout, designed by Aymerich Golf Management, follows the natural contours of the land situated between two rivers and the course is bordered part way by the Galería forest with its remarkable variety of indigenous trees. The greens are large with an average area of 641m2, the smallest being 450m2, and all of them generally incorporate gentle slopes.
