Jaén province

Pinar de Cánavas Natural Monument

Located on the fringes of the Sierra Mágina Natural Park, this centuries-old woodland of Aleppo pine trees (pinus halepensis) is one of the best preserved of its kind in Andalucia. The trees, aged between 100 and 250 years, are home to a rich variety of birds.

El Quejigo del Amo Natural Monument

This magnificent gall oak, the Quejigo del Amo o del Carbón, is thought to be more than 500 years old. Its name (del Carbón) reflects a common use of gall oaks, to make their wood into charcoal.

Laguna Honda Natural Reserve

Located near the Laguna del Chinche Natural Reserve is the 65ha saltwater Laguna Honda, with an additional 220ha area around the lake shores. It usually dries up in summer, so it's best to visit it at other times of the year.

Access
The reserve is located about 48km southwest of Jaen. Take the A316 from Jaen towards Martos. At the village of Alcaudete take the N432 towards Cordoba. A few kilometres out of the village, just north of the N432, is the reserve.

Laguna del Chinche Natural Reserve

Situated just to the north of the Laguna Honda Natural Reserve is this small lake, the 6.5ha Laguna del Chinche, surrounded by olive groves, with an additional 39ha of protected area around the lake. Like Laguna Grande Natural Area and Laguna Honda, it is under protection because of the relative scarcity of wetland areas in Jaen province.

Andalucia is not alone in its quest for the convenience of large out-of-town shopping centres or commercial centres ( centros comerciales) . Over the past five years shopping centres in Andalucia have become increasingly prevalent and in Andalucia today they form an integral part of most peoples’ shopping experience.

In Jaen province there are beautil parks such as Parque del Seminario, Parque de la Alameda de Calvo Sotelo, etc.

Jaén Province Natural Parks

Jaen boasts Spain's largest protected area, the immense wilderness of Cazorla Natural Park, with its grey, rocky peaks towering over thick forests of pine trees and babbling mountain streams, including the source of the great Guadalquivir river. The well-preserved Mediterranean woodland of the Sierra de Andújar Natural Park and the Despeñaperros Natural Park provides some of the few remaining refuges of the highly endangered pardel lynx and the rarely sighted wolf. Medieval hilltop castles are in abundance in the Sierra Mágina Natural Park and make ideal vantage points to view the Sierra's peaks, which are snow covered in winter.

La Carolina Museum

This excellent modern museum explains the history of the mining industry in the areas surrounding La Carolina and the other settlers' towns. It charts the history from ancient times to the mining boom of the 19th century, and will be enjoyed by anyone interested in mining and industry, especially British visitors, since, as in Rio Tinto (Huelva).

Marinated Partridge

Clean the partridges and tie them with string so they keep their shape. In a cazuela or deep flameproof casserole, brown them slowly in the oil, then remove. Add the onion, garlic, carrot, bay, thyme, parsley, pepper, cloves, paprika, vinegar, wine and salt to the casserole. Bring to a boil and cook 5 minutes.

Hornos

Despite some recent construction around the village, the view of Hornos del Segura from afar remains spectacular. The ancient wall of this former Arab fortress stands almost intact, and the village is crowned by a castle with tower. There are numerous fantastic viewpoints overlooking the surrounding Sierra de Cazorla Natural Park. It has about 600 inhabitants.

Jaén Province

Jaén is probably best known for its abundance of olive trees which dominate the landscape and punctuate the horizon, interspersed by stark white-washed farms and houses against a deep orange backdrop; the colour of the soil. This province is the world's leading producer of olives and olive oil.

Sierra de Segura

The Sierra de Segura comarca or area of Jaen province is the rural area in the far north-east part of the province.

Inland Blue Flag Beaches

In 2025 in Andalucia there has been two inland beaches awarded with Blue Flag beaches recognition.

La Loma y Las Villas

The La Loma and Las Villas comarcas or areas of Jaen province is the rural areas in the centre of the province. The area is best know for the twin renaissance towns of Ubeda and Baeza.

El Condado

El Condado comarca or area of Jaen province is the rural area in the northern part of the province.

Sierra Mágina

The Sierra Mágina comarca or area of Jaen province is the mountain range in the southern part of the province.

Arroyo del Ojanco

Arroyo del Ojanco belonged to the municipality of Beas de Segura until 2001 when the segregationist movements that began in 1950 bore fruit. It is situated within the Cazorla, Segura y las Villas Natural Park in mountainous terrain bathed by the Guadalmena and Guadalimar rivers, and the stream that gives it its name. It has about 2500 inhabitants.

Beas de Segura

Beas de Segura is situated within the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y las Villas Natural Park, designated a biosphere reserve by UNESCO. The name comes from the Latin term “Veha”, which means path or way. It was given this name due to the settlement being at the crossroads of three Roman roads that went to the mountains, the east and the county. It has about 5500 inhabitants.
