Russian Orthodox Church

Drivers on the A-7 Coastal highway east of Estepona may have seen the silver capped tower against the blue sky and wondered what the building was.  The answer is the first ever purpose-built Russian Orthodox church on Costa del Sol's and Andalucia.

The church is interesting, pure white building below a silver-coloured stainless steel-clad circular tower.

A charitable foundation was set up in 2021 by group of Russian-speaking residents and businesses is coordinating the project and is  raising funds.  A project was developed in Marbella but halted due to objections from residents.

On 11 January 2018 Estepona town hall approved the use of a council-owned 5,844-square-metre plot of land with 75 year rights for the church and cultural centre to be completed by August 2020, however construction finished in June 2021. The budget for the construction was 1.1 million euros,

The church and cultural centre, will also arrange special events to promote Russian and Orthodox cultures and host Russian language classes.

The Orthodox church congregation is made up of Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians, Georgians and Moldovans.
