Iglesia de Santiago
The surroundings of the church are home to some of the most evocative and charming corners of old Guadix. Designed by the great architect and sculptor Diego de Siloé, the church features some particularly innovative elements based on a traditional Mudejar temple model, such as the monumental portal, curved aisles and framework of the main chapel. The exterior is particularly appealing due to the whiteness of its walls, the irregular arrangement of the chapels and naves, the elegant break in the roofs, the ceramic spire of the tower and the monumental Renaissance portal. Of particular note is the concha (shell), which adorns several corners and could symbolise the Apostle Santiago. It is located in Plaza Santiago.
