Shows and Cabaret

Attracting holidaymakers from all over the world, the Costa del Sol has become one of Europe´s top holiday destinations, and offers visitors some shows, live entertainment and cabaret acts. The 'shows' tend to concentrate on Torremolinos and Benalmadena where there are more foreign tourists. Comedy club acts in Spanish are found occasionally in Malaga City and Seville.

Tablate

Tablate is an abandones village located in the municipality of El Pinar in the Lecrin Valley comarca. There are a few remnants of the village to be seen such as a roadside Venta and bridge.

Zahara de los Atunes Beaches

Although Zahara de los Atunes lies within the municipal district of Barbate, these beaches are so good that they deserve their own dedicated page. Playa de Zahara de los Atunes is one of the most well-known beaches in the area, and beyond. Famous for its 6.3km-long shoreline of virtually untouched sand, this beach stretches from the little fishing village of Zahara de Los Atunes all the way south to Cabo de Plata.

Marbella - Fascinating Fact 1

Marbella has three one-Michelin-starred restaurants , the most famous of which is Dani Garcia's Calima (he is said to be the next Ferran Adria - cherry gazpacho with anchovies and queso fresco snow), in the Hotel Gran Melia Don Pepe. The town is home to over 600 more eateries, making it one of Andalucia's top culinary destinations.

The 17th-century Castillo de Santa Catalina, which formed part of the city’s defences from the time of King Felipe II, has been partially restored and now has four rooms where exhibitions of paintings, engravings and photographs are held.

History - Prehistory

Andalucia, with its extensive coast and proximity to Africa, just across the Strats of Gibraltar - was often one of the first areas to be explored and settled by new tribes. For this reason, the region is rich with archaeological remains going back millennia, some better preserved and explained than others. Many towns - even small ones - have their own museums displaying the artefacts which were uncovered in the vicinity, whether from tombs, caves, dolmens or other structures or dwelling places.

Hotels - Adults-only Hotels on the Costa del Sol

Adults-only hotels are those which do not permit children and therefore mainly cater to adults. The minimum age of guests is generally either 16 or 18 but occasionally the limit is up to 21.

Guest rooms, restaurants and facilities are tailored solely to adults, with decoration and design offering a sophisticated ambience without having to cater to the needs of families. You get the assurance of having a peaceful stay with no children running around, either in the public areas, restaurants or swimming pools.

Jerez de la Frontera - Fascinating Fact 1

The city's name started out as "Xeres" in Roman times (though the Phoenicians were here before them), then became "Sherrish" under its Moorish rulers (giving its name to the fortified wine, finally ending up as "Jerez de la Frontera" in the late 14th century, due to its location on the border of the Muslim and Christian-ruled regions. In Catalan, Italian and French, sherry is still called "Xeres", harking back to the Roman/medieval Castillian word, "Xerez".

Art and Popular Customs Museum

This attractive small museum is housed in the "Meson de la Victoria", a former 17th century inn, now attractively restored. The museum is on two floors and was created to give an insight into the past ways and customs of the people of the region.

Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park - Walks

Grazalema is one of the most popular places in Andalucia for walkers. It has over 30 signposted routes, but many walks in the park have restricted access to protect nesting birds and prevent fires in summer. Contact the park office in El Bosque or in Grazalema for more information.

Torre de Calaburras watchtower, Mijas Costa

This tower is also known as Calburra or simply Burras. A document dated 1571 mentions La Cala and the station of Burras (a small military base) but it was not until 1574 when Francisco de Cordoba, Capitan General of the Kingdom of Granada.

Bayard Osborne

During the early 1980s, well-known American sculptor, Bayard Osborne, famed for his Bronze Nudes statues, lived briefly at the Villa La Loma, in Calle Ramos Puente in Torremolinos. Born in Manhattan in 1922, Osborne exhibited his work all over the world, and he could count King Juan Carlos I of Spain among his admirers.

Plaza de Toros (La Malagueta)

La Malagueta itself was built in 1874, by the architect Joaquín Rucoba. The first fight took place on 11th June 1876, and the matadors who fought were Rafael Molina, Antonio Carmona, Luque El Gordito, and Manuel Rodriguez. A century later in 1976 the site was declared an Historic Artistic Monument, and in 1981, it was declared an Official Site of Cultural Interest.
