Gibraltar has an extensive array of shops that will catch the eye of most types of shoppers. From jewellers and discounted luxury brands to cosmetics, classic British high-street brands such as Marks & Spencer and Next, sports shops and fashion brands, not to mention souvenirs, a walk down Main Street will keep both window shoppers and shopaholics entertained.
The majority of the shops are on or around Main Street. This has been transformed in recent years into a beautiful pedestrianised shopping area. The refurbished John Mackintosh Square on Main Street, locally known as "La Piazza" is a good spot to watch the world go by, steps away from the bustle of the shops, restaurants and bars.
Amongst the shops of Main Street you'll find numerous money exchange centres. The vast majority offer a very good rate of exchange and charge no commission on cash exchanges. However, do be careful to check before you change your money.

The common theme along Main Street is Duty Free shopping on products such as perfumes, cosmetics, tobacco and alcohol. If you are crossing back into Spain, be sure to keep your receipts as to avoid problems at the border.
Shops in Gibraltar tend to follow British rather than Spanish opening hours. The majority of shops open from 09.00 to 18.00 Monday to Friday although some remain open a bit later. On Saturday most shops close at 13.30 with a minority opened till 4.00. The shops are closed on Sundays unless a cruise ship is in port.
