Tajo gorge trail, Ronda (Camino del Desfiladero del Tajo)
Ronda´s “Camino del Desfiladero del Tajo”, Tajo gorge trail is a walkway of 900 metres which leads visitors under Puente Nuevo and continues through the gorge to the Antingua Ermita de San Miguel, next to the Arab baths.
The trail consists of a walkway which descends steeply from the Plaza María Auxiliadora towards a viewpoint and a picnic area, where you reach the start of the official walkway. After passing through Puente Nuevo, the walkway is attached to the narrower side of the gorge, offering a unique view of the Tajo. It then leads on to the water mine of the Casa Rey Moro, eventually widening and crossing Puente Viejo and Puente de las Curtidurías, reaching the Arab Baths where the walk finalises.
The first part of the walkway, of 250 metres, up to the bridge had been open since 2024 and in its first year Ronda recorded around 160,000 visitors. The second part of the pathway was inaugurated by the President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, on Tuesday 15 September 2026 and was officially open to the public on the following day, 16 September 2026.

The Tajo in is a 120 metre limestone gorge sculpted by the Guadalevín river which divides the historic city of Ronda in two. The Puente Nuevo, built in 1793, connects the city and is one of Ronda's most iconic landmarks. The 21st century modern pathway was created with the intent to allow people to experience a closer look at the river, gorge, bridge and of course, take in the breathtaking views, which combines both nature and historical heritage. Moreover, the Ayuntamiento de Ronda, also confirmed that it was an attempt to redirect tourism to different areas of Ronda, which are also recognised for their beauty and history, and decrease the number of tourists from the historic town centre.
The wooden pathway was designed by the Malagueño Luis Machuca, the same architect who created the Caminito del Rey en El Chorro, Málaga. It was strategically built close to the river to protect and to not interfere with the natural surroundings.

The walk takes approximately 20 minutes, and is one-way, with options to walk back uphill through the old town on either side of the Tajo. It is mandatory to wear a hardhat.
If you are in Ronda, you must try this activity, if you want to experience beautiful views from a little-known vantage point and embark on a little adventure.
TICKETS
To access the walkway it costs 12 euros per person (Ronda residents enter for free) and you must be over 8 years old. For 8 year olds and above, you must bring a form of ID (DNI/NIE/Passport/Libro de Familia) to correctly identify the age as well as be accompanied by an adult.
Reserve tickets on The Desfiladero del Tajo website or some may be available at the ticket office located after the first descent from la Plaza María Auxiliadora just before reaching the base of the bridge.
