Estepona Mural - Team Spirit or Champions

Team Spirit is painted on the front and the south elevation of municipal sports pavilion J A Pineda. It is painted by Estepona artist Francisco Alarcón. The mural features members of the local basketball team.

This mural is a tribute to the CAB Estepona 05-06 children's basketball team after they won the 2019 Andalusian Championship.

The mural features sixteen portraits (fourteen players and two coaches) arranged in five formal groups, representing the biggest challenge to date. The wall has multiple windows, which motivated us to seek a dynamic composition that incorporated these spaces. The wall measures 9 x 32 metres (approximately 270 m² of painting).

Each group of portraits is associated with elements of nature: stars, the rainbow, the colour of the sky, diamonds, clouds, and night-time stars. These symbolise the purity of adolescence.

The mural is topped with a bespoke vinyl design for the CAB featuring the word 'CHAMPIONS' amongst basketball symbols. This team had a spectacular year of sport, coming tenth in the Spanish Championship held in Huelva.

The municipal sports pavilion J A Pineda is located on Calle Cristobal Ruiz Mendez opposite the Huerta Nueva Park. Huerta Nueva is the name of the district and it means 'new allotments'. It is also fitting to the team spirit concept that the bulding served in the 1980s until 2013 as the Estepona Firs Station.
