Pedrera

History

Alquife has a long mining history, from the Bronze Age to modern times. Its iron mines shaped the local economy, and though activity declined in the late 20th century, the mines recently reopened.

Alcazaba de Almeria - History

Archaeological excavations in recent years have verified the Roman Empire’s presence both inside and outside of the Alcazaba’s walls, and yet its current silhouette can be traced back to its founder, Umayyad Caliph Abd al-Rahman III (who also built Medina Azahara). According to an inscription found on marble which is now housed in the (Archeological) Museum of Almería, he ordered it to be built in the latter half of the 10th century.

Lauro Golf

Great natural beauty and panoramic views surround Lauro Golf Course. An inland course on flat terrain 300 metres above sea level, opened in 1992 with holes 1-18 designed by Falco Nordi and later the addition of holes 19-27 designed by Mariano Benítez.

Castillo de La Peza

The castle complex comprises two enclosures, with significant remains that provide an indication of its original perimeter. Only remains of the masonry wall that enclosed the exterior of the first enclosure can be seen today, as well as remains of an earth wall to the southeast and three towers in the second enclosure.
