Here is a list with the latest pages that have been updated or created. Most recent are at the top of the list.

Gymnasiums

There are more gyms and fitness centres in Andalucía than ever before. Whereas in the early 1980s you’d have been pushed to find the odd male-dominated weights room, there are now many centres.

Maracena

Maracena is a predominantly agricultural village. Originally known as Maratiena, it was an important Roman settlement and remained so during the Moorish era, when it was known as Marasana. The village has a population of around 19,300.

Festival de Music Española de Cadiz

Festival de Música Española (Spanish music festival), a ten-day musical extravaganza dedicated to one the city’s most formidable composers, Manuel de Falla.

Learning to Drive

I am the proud holder of a Spanish driver’s license. You cannot imagine how proud. I can't tell how much it cost me – I went into denial once I hit four figures (in pounds). Learning to drive is a wallet-wincing business anywhere, but in Spain even for souls less automobilistically-challenged than myself, it costs a veritable ojo de la cara (lit. an eye off your face). To add humiliation to insolvency, once you have jumped through all hoops, practical, theoretical and bureaucratic, you must announce your first year as a driver with a green L-plate stuck in your rear window. Still, that's all water under the bridge now. The beep-at-me-I'm-an-idiot-sign's in the bin and I can afford to put petrol in the car.

Hotels in Zufre

Zufre is a small village and does not have any large hotels. Casa Vesta with terrace, infinity pool, 360 views, private parking is certainly one of the leading small boutique hotels in Andalucia. It is located just on the edge of the village so it is easy to wander around.

Lújar

Lújar is a great combination of the beautiful Sierra and the coast, which is just a few minutes away. As a result, visitors to Lújar can experience the mountains and the sea on the same day.

Restaurants

One of the most popular holiday resorts along the Costa Almeria, just 15 minutes drive from the city of Almeria itself, Roquetas de Mar has an abundance of dining options and restaurants to accommodate the waves of Spaniards and foreign tourists that descend upon the resort during the summer season.

Monumental City

San Fernando has a lot to offer in terms of artistic worth and interesting architecture. It underwent its most rapid growth during the 18th Century and so it makes sense that its most important buildings come from that prosperous time.

Via Verde of Riotinto

Starting from the Valverde railway station, at the end of the Vía Verde of the Watermills that links Valverde with San Juan del Puerto to the south, is this 35km-long route to Riotinto, a historically important mining centre. The final stretch of the train track was used for transporting miners from Zalamea and El Campillo to Riotinto.

Coronavirus Deaths

Current data on Coronavirus cases in Andalucia can be found in Spanish on the Andalucia Health service web page.

Cadiz Hotel Reviews

Reviews of the prestigious hotels of Cadiz. The city of Cadiz is an amazing place to explore on foot. Situated at the end of a peninsula, Cadiz is surprisingly compact and easy to navigate, even for the most timid of visitors. Its cathedral, its ancient walls, its old fortifications, and its narrow streets all work to invite the visitor into the city's heart and engulf them in the soul of the place.

Cogollos de Guadix

Cogollos de Guadix is a small village with wide streets and three large squares bordering on the Sierra Nevada National Park, a true delight for the visitors, with breath-taking views of the Marquesado del Cenere and a large part of the Hoya de Guadix. The main monument in Cogollos de Guadix is the Church, the Iglesia de la Anunciacion, declared a place of cultural interest.

Castillo de Arenas

Situated 1393m above sea level, the castle sits on the Cerro del Castillo de Puerta Arenas, in the Sierra de Alta Coloma, between Granada and Jaén. The Portillo del Río Campillo is the only practicable pass to cross this Sierra. The castle stands on an L-shaped ridge, whose ends are two promontories defended by cuts in the terrain. Today, the castle is in a ruinous state. Located north of the town, off the JV-2228.
