Isla Cristina Beaches - Playa Central

Observatorio Astronómico Hispano-Alemán de Calar Alto (CAHA)

The Calar Alto Hispano-German Astronomical Observatory is situated in the Sierra de Los Filabres, north of the province of Almería, and is operated jointly by the Max-Planck Institute of Astronomy in Heidelberg (Germany) , and the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (CSIC) in Granada.

Currency

The Spanish unit of currency is the Euro. There are coins of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 cents and 1, 2 Euro. Note denominations are 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500. On January 1st 2002 the Euro replaced the Peseta which had been the official currency of Spain for 130 years. The exchange rate is fixed at Euro = 166.386 Pesetas.

Guadalmina - Restaurants

Guadalmina is a beachside community that stradles the A7/N340 coast road, dividing it into Guadalmina Alta and Guadalmina Baja. Its west boundary runs along the Guadalmina River which is also the Marbella / Estepona boundary. Guadalmina is a mature urbanisation mostly developed in the 1980s.

Cabo de Gata Beaches

The coastal road is blocked to through traffic just to the east, making for a truly tranquil experience; where the road ends you will find the stunning Mirador de las Sirenas a viewpoint looking out over the Mediterranean

Muslim

The horseshoe arch, first seen in small churches erected by the Visigoths, was developed by the Moors and became the hallmark of their architecture; the Grand Mosque in Córdoba being the classic and most well known example. Speed Limits in Spain

Lookout for specific speed limits. These will be signed but if you are driving across country you may forget the specific limit applies. Tunnels and underpass even on motorways will be limited to 80 or 100 km/h. Sharp bends will be signed, cross country roads passing through villages will be 50km/hr or road intersections 80km/hr.

Roadside Hotels (Motels)

These hotels are located close to a motorway or a major road, and are ideal for anyone undertaking a long car journey across Andalucia, perhaps to discover the lesser-known parts of the region. They offer a convenient place to stay without having to make a detour onto a smaller road to find a hotel after a long day’s driving, although the downside is that they are functional rather than beautiful and full of character.

Jaen City - Fascenating Fact 1

Jaen´s name comes from the Moorish word geen or jayyan, meaning stopping post on a caravan route. King Ferdinand III captured the city from Ibn-Nasr, who subsequently founded the Nasrid kingdom of Granada in 1246, and Jaen had a strategic position on the frontline between Christian Spain and Moorish Granada. It was used as the gateway for the armies in the Reconquest, and Ferdinand and Isabella launched their final assault on Boabdil´s Granada from here in 1492.
