Real Club de Golf Sotogrande is the DP World Tour’s plan B
The Real Club de Golf Sotogrande is set to be the DP World Tour’s finale if security concerns prevent it from being hosted in Dubai.
The tournament is currently set to be in Dubai from 12th to 15th November and the Abu Dhabi Championship from 5th to 8th November. If the tournaments to be moved to Sotogrande due to raising issues in the Middle East the Abu Dhabi Championship would be cancelled and the Real Club de Golf Sotogrande would host the top 70 players in the rankings for the tour's finale.
Sotogrande holds a special place in the history of the European Tour, which was founded in 1972 by John Jacobs with the aim of modernising professional golf tournaments across Great Britain and Europe. The Real Club Valderrama was renovated in 1985 and hosted the legendary Volvo Masters, the final tournament of the season and decider of the European Tour's Order of Merit. Soren Kjelsen won the 21st and final Volvo Masters at Valderrama in 2008. The following year, the European Tour announced a new tournament to take place in Dubai, and hence the Order of Merit became the 'Race to Dubai'. In 2022, the circuit officially rebranded to its current name, the DP World Tour, following a major global sponsorship deal with the Dubai-based logistics company DP World. The Andalucía Masters returned to Sotogrande every year except from 2012 to 2016, and to Valderrama until 2022. In 2023 and 2024, it was held at the Real Club de Golf Sotogrande. However, the Andalucía Masters was quietly absent from the DP World Tour schedule in 2025, and as the schedule closed the DP World India Championship in New Delhi was added to the Andalucía Masters slot between 16 and 19 October 2025. Neither the title sponsors, Estrella Damm, nor the principal sponsors, the Andalucía tourist board, have ever commented on or explained this change. The Andalucía Masters had been played in Sotogrande 25 times since 1988.
Santander Golf Tour in Sevilla
The Santander Golf Tour Sevilla is set to take place on the 28th and 29th of October at the Club Zaudín Golf in Seville. This tournament serves as the penultimate stop of the 11th season of the Ladies European Tour. Currently leading the table are Ana Pina from Sevilla, followed closely by Italy's Maria Vittoria Corbi and Spain's Alicia Fajardo. The tournament takes place after Pedreña in the north of Spain, just a few days before.
The player who finishes the season in first place will automatically qualify for the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España presented by Oysho, the Ladies European Tour (LET) grand finale, which will take place from 26 to 29 November at La Cala Resort.
The Alto Club- New Golf Course
The Alto Club in Sotogrande, previously known as Almenara Golf Club, has made an addition to their Academy golf facilities, with a 9 hole Par 3 course. Despite plans to open in March, on 4 September 2026, the golf club inaugurated the course. The course called ”Par 3” has holes ranging between 80 and 200 metres in legth. It is designed to help professionals with their short distance and precision shots and beginner golfers to practice on a smaller and more simple course. More info>
Andalucia Costa del Sol Open de España
The Andalucian Ladies Open 2026 has been confirmed to be held at La Cala Resort in Míjas from November 26th to the 29th to close the Ladies European Tour. The championship will be held on the La Cala Europa course, one of three courses designed by Cabell Robinson, a layout known for its character.
The Europa course is known for its strategic nature and for demanding precision on approach shots rather than power off the tee. It is a well-balanced course where the tee shot clearly influences the chances on each hole, especially due to the well-protected, undulating greens with slopes that require precise reading of the ball.
The change of venue each year for this tournament is derived form the commitment by the institutional sponsors; Andalucia and the Costa del Sol tourist board to reinforce the link between the Spanish Women’s Open and the Costa del Sol. More>
