Copa Despedida - 12th Sept to 15th September 2024 Teams and Fixtures
Maass Polo Team defeated Santa Cruz by 8-6 to win the Despedida Cup in the final played at Ayala Polo Club's field number 2 on Sunday morning 15th September. The team of the German player Patric Maass, had been finalist of the San Enrique de Guadiaro Cup the previous week, won their first title in Sotogrande. In the run-up to the final of the Farewell Cup, Los Chinos beat Düsseldorf 8-5 to win the Horse Pilot Cup.
The final of the Farewell Cup was a back and forth game from the start. Maass Polo Team knew how to take advantage of each of the opportunities they had in the first chukker. Santa Cruz managed to close the gap get within striking distance of a draw. But a goal by Nicolás Ruiz Guiñazú with less than a minute to go secured the Maass Polo victory.
Paola Zóbel, President of Ayala Polo Club presented the Farewell Cup to the champions. Juan Goti, from the Ayala Polo Club sports management area presented the award for the best player of the season. Martín Espain, Polo Manager of Ayala Polo Club presented the prize to the best horse of the final. Manuel Cereceda, Sports Director of the Tournament presented the prizes to the winner and finalist of the Horse Pilot Cup.

Copa San Enrique de Guadiaro - 5th Sept to 8th September 2024 Teams and Fixtures
Team Agadir defeated Team Maass Polo 4.5 to 4 to win the San Enrique de Guadiaro Cup. The final was played on Sunday morning on field number 2 at the Ayala Polo Club facilities in San Enrique. The Agadir team, led by Moroccan player Zaki Bouslikhane, won the tournament after winning all 3 matches they played. In field 3, before the final on Sunday morning, Los Chinos beat Mor Polo and Düsseldorf in a play-off to finish in third place and win the Nora Kalai Cup.
The final of the San Enrique de Guadiaro Cup was an evenly matched affair, with the winner decided by a half-goal at the final whistle. Agadir had started the match with that half a goal on the scoreboard, as their total team handicap was 7 and Mass Polo's team handicap was 8. Five teams with a handicap of up to 8 goals took part in this competition between Ayala Polo Club and Ayala Sede Los Pinos.

Final Copa de Oro Turkish Airlines High Handicap
Team Calatagan beat team ATL Marine & Energy in a close final by 15 goals to 14. The match took place at Los Pinos Field 3, Saturday 31th August: 18:30 hrs.
2024 was certainly a final to remember. Two evenly matched teams, with Team Calatagan's four players on a handicap of 21 and ATL Marine & Energy's on a handicap of 20. At the end of the fifth (of six) chukkers, the score was even at 12-12.
In the final chukker, the score crept up and when the clock stopped for a drop-in with 1m18s to go, the score was even at 14-13. It was a match that seemed destined to go to extra chukka. The crowd were all caught up in the game and, judging by the cheers, seemed to be equally supportive of each team, with perhaps a louder cheer for ATL Marine & Energy. In the final minute, the score was 14-13 to Calatagan, and with five seconds to go, another goal secured a 15-14 win for Calatagan. After this final goal was scored, the players let the last five seconds tick away, knowing the game was already won.
Outstanding performances by Facundo Pieres (Instagram) from Argentina, who scored 8 goals for Calatagan, and Bartolomé Castagnola (Instagram), who scored 10 for ATL Marine & Energy's, both at the height of their careers and their 10 handicaps.
The decisive contribution of Santiago Laborde (husband of Paola Zóbel, President of the Ayala Polo Club) and the finishing goals of Antonio Heguy (Instagram) gave the trophy to the Calatagan team of Martin Romualdez the Philippine congressman and nephew of Inmelda Marcos. This is the first year that Calatagan, a new team, have lifted the international trophy in Sotogrande. For the second time, they also won the Bronze Cup, also against ATL Marine & Energy.
ATL Marine & Energy is a fully accredited Lloyd's commercial insurance broker established in January 2014, an independent company owned by its directors and employees. Calatagan is the name of a beach, resort and peninsula in the province of Batangas, Philippines. Polo matches for the 30th Southeast Asian Games were held in Calatagan.

53rd Aniversary Copa de Plata - 29th July to 17th August 2024
Final Copa de Plata High Handicap
Team Dubai won the final of the High Handicap Terralpa Silver Cup on Saturday 17th August , beating Team MB Polo 11 to 9 on Los Pinos Field 3. Rashid Albwardy's Team Dubai lifted the trophy, which they also won in 2022. Dubai also beat MB Polo in the final of the 2023 Gold Cup. This final was a match that could easily be divided into two halves. The first half was even with a more open first chukker, while the second and third chukkers were tighter with fewer goals. At this point, MB Polo had the advantage, leading 5-4. But in the fourth chukker we saw the best of Dubai and Camilo Castagnola was at his best, scoring several times. As a result, Dubai managed to get the game into a different rhythm and maintain a two-goal lead that MB Polo could not recover.

A Saturday to remember at Ayala Polo Club, where team Electric Polo and team 1896 Polo emerged as the champions as they won, respectively, the Sotogrande Bronze Cup for Medium and Low Handicap. Both matches were played in the afternoon and took place on Los Pinos fields 3 and 4 of Ayala Sede Los Pinos. In the Low Handicap category, Team Signet defeated Team Grupo Mendizábal to win the Hermés Capital Cup.

Most of the 2024 summer season matches including the finals took place at the Los Pinos grounds near Sotogrande Marina. The Los Pinos grounds are often referred to a Santa Maria club grounds, however since 2021 they have been leased to the Alaya Club and the official name is "Ayala Polo Club Sede Los Pinos". Some of the 2024 early-summer matches took place at the Ayala polo fields or grounds in San Enrique.

Team Calatagan defeated Team Arho 9-4 the final at Ayala's field 2 on Sunday 14th July 2024 to win the Manuel Prado y Colón de Carvajal Memorial. Calatagan is the team lead by the Filipino player Martin Romualez. Calatagan was able to make lead from the and were 3-0 up to the midway point of the second chukker. However in a flurry of just over 1 minute, Arho managed to score back-to-back goals to make the score 3-2 at the half-time break. Calatagan reached the decisive fourth chukka with confidence, where they continued to widen the gap until the final score was 9-4.
The Manuel Prado y Colón de Carvajal Memorial Cup, the fourth tournament of the season organised by the Ayala Polo Club. It featured 12 teams with a handicap of up to 8 goals. There were several teams making their debut in the 2024 Ayala Polo Club season: ARHO, Electric Polo, Calatagan, No Polo No Life, Signet and 1896 Polo Team. Returning teams are Dusseldorf, Hanuman, John Smith Legacy Pampa y La Vía and Ventidue, The matches took place between two venues: Ayala Polo Club and Los Pinos.
CALATAGAN members were Martín Romualdez 0, Roberto Iturrioz 2 (2 goles), Santos Iriarte 2 (4), Gregorio Gelosi 4 (3). Total: 8.

20th June to 30th June 2024 - Open de España Teams and Fixtures
Jella Herzer's team Los Schatzies beat Legacy 10-7 in the Open de España final on Sunday 30 June 2024 at Los Pinos. They led 4-0 after the first chukker. But team Legacy, who were playing in the Sotogrande season for the first time, began to settle into the game and managed to equalise. Once again it was Los Schazties who held on for the win, with Patricio Neves leading the way from the back.
The Open de España tournament consisted of twelve teams playing 18 heats up to 26 June 2024. The semi-finals were be played on 27 and 28 June. The final of the Open de España took place on Sunday 30th June at 19.00 at Los Pinos. The Nido Estepona Cup & Covetsol Cup were also awarded.
LOS SCHATZIES members were Jella Herzer 0 (1 goal), Juan Gavira 2 (1 goal), Santos Iriarte 2 (2 goals), Patricio Neves 4 (6 goals).

Seven teams of six to eight goals handicap took part in Copa Joseph McMickling. Team Los Schatzies were crowned champions after beating team Pampa y La Via by 10 to 3 in the final played at Los Pinos on Sunday afternoon. Los Schatzies were captained by Jella Herzer (Germany).
LOS SCHATZIES members were Jella Herzer 0, Juan Gavira 2 (1 goal), Santos Iriarte 2 (5 goals), Patricio Neves 4 (4 goals).

28th May to 2nd June 2024 - Ké Sotogrande Cup & Welcome Cup - Teams and Fixtures
Eight teams of up to 8 goals handicap took part in both tournaments which ran concurrently. Team Los Schatzies were crowned champions of the Welcome Cup, after beating team Rhone Hill by 9 to 4.5 in the final played on field 2 at the Ayala Polo Club. Los Schatzies, captained by Jella Herzer (Germany) were crowned champions for the second consecutive year.
Team Los Schatzies consisted of Jella Herzer 0, Juan Gavira 2 (2 goals), Santos Iriarte 2 (4 goals), Ezequiel Zubiaurre 4 (3 goals). Team 8 HCP.

The final Sunday started early in the morning with the matches for third places where team Dusseldorf defeated team Dany's Polo. Later in the morning team Real Club Pineda beat team Dany's Polo and team Real Club Pineda beat Agadir Polo to take third place.
In the afternoon on field 3 of Ayala Polo Club victory in the Ke Sotogrande Cup was secured by team Pampa y La Vía, who beat team Ventidue by 8 to 3.
