Buenas Noches - Estepona districts
by Sinéad Mangan-Mc Hale
Buenas Noches is a small, well-established area on both sides of the A-7 coastal road. Situated 5k outside of Estepona towards Sabinillas village and Puerto Duquesa, (Duquesa Port) it is the furthest district in West Estepona. The district is bounded to the east by Arroyo la Galera (Galera stream) and the Bahía Dorada district and to the west east by the Casares Costa district of Casares municipality. There is little on the coast road to mark this boundary between Estepona and Casares except perhaps a line where the older constructions stops. The boundary is 100m west of the Buenas Noches petrol station and Urbanizacion Acapulco is in Estepona municipality.
The Buenas Noches coastline gives visitors a view of the Rock of Gibraltar jutting out into the Strait of Gibraltar, and on clear days, the silhouette of North Africa. Looking towards the mountainside, Los Reales de Sierra Bermeja, shapes the landscape. Majestic during the day, the red hue cast by the sunset makes them a spectacular sight to see.
Beaches
The Playa de la Galera (Galera beach) is located between Playa Bahía Dorada headland and the Torre de la Sal headland separating it from Playa de la Sal Casares. It is a coarse, dark-sanded, pebbled small beach with rocky areas measuring just 2K in length. Still, it offers visitors a relatively quiet area to enjoy sunbathing, swimming, or scuba diving. The beach is known for Islote de las Palomas (Doves Islet) or Piedra Paloma (Doves rock), a small steep sided rocky islet just below the low-water mark. More about Playa de la Galera.

Hotel and Restaurants
One of the longer standing family-run hotels, owned and run by the Carmona family since 1992, the Piedra Paloma, is located on the mountainside of the coast road. The two-star hotel, opened during the high season, has a distinctive blue and white frontage with arch-shaped balconies which look towards the Mediterranean Sea. The original supermarket, souvenir shop, and Restaurant La Galera, opened by Gabriel Carmona Fernández in 1971, still operate at the hotel's ground level.
If looking for cuisines other than Spanish, Buenas Noches district is home to Roi Et Thai Restaurant, on Calle Caddie (Caddie Street) popular with locals and visitors alike. In addition, Restaurante de Casona, located in La Galera urbanisation, offers a range of local and international cuisines.
Urbanisations
In addition to individual villas on the coast and mountainside, there are several well-established urbanisations in the area, many offering holiday rentals, giving visitors an opportunity to live within a developed community. Visitors can stay in communities such as Galera Homes, Jardines de Nueva Galera, Galera Homes, and Galera Park. If looking for properties in this area, Buenas Noches has a locally based inmobiliaria(estate agents), Marco Properties. The Estacion de Servicio Madese—Repsol (Repsol Service Station), located on the coast road, offers traditional car-related services as well as a Self-Service Laundry, ATM, and DHL courier service.
Transport
One significant advantage of Buenas Noches is that it is just on the outskirts of Estepona Town, making it convenient to the many restaurants, shops, and bars in the town. Being close to the A-7 coastal road, the town is easily accessible by car, taxi, and public transport. And with the Senda Litoral, it is easy to take a scenic walk along the coast directly into Puerto Estepona (Estepona Port).
In addition to hiring a car in Estepona or Malaga Airport or Gibraltar airport, Estepona taxis, and several firms offer minibus car or limousine private transfers to and from the airport and the surrounding areas. The Bolt and Uber Apps also work within the district.
There is an Estepona microbus service operating along A-7 stopping at the entrance to many of the Estepona western districts. E-1 Bus service operates along the A-7 coast road from Buenas Noches, passing Bahia Dorada, Arroyo Vaquero, Arena Beach, Valle Romano and Guadalabón on its way to Estepona town centre and terminating at Avenida Juan Carlos I.
There is also an Avanza-Portillo M-240 service from Estepona to La Linea which can be used to or from Sabinillas, Duquesa, Torrequadiaro, Sotogrande, San Roque and La Linea (for Gibraltar). This M-240 bus is not permitted to issue tickets to passengers for journeys entirely within the Estepona municipal district.More details.
For those who want to enjoy more of the sights of Andalucía, the district is close to the A-7 Coastal highway so visitors can easily access destinations on either side of Estepona. Along the coast to the west these include Sotogrande, Gibraltar, Tarifa and the golden sand beaches of Costa de la Luz. Along the coast to the east these include Marbella, and Malaga. They can also explore inland villages of Casares, Gaucin on the road to towards Ronda. Not forgetting the magnificent cities of Seville, Cordoba or Granada.
