Peña Flamenca de Estepona
The Peña Flamenca de Estepona is the original flamenco social club in the centre of Estepona town. The Peña is one of about 50 federated clubs in the Malaga province.
The club's premises are an rather ugly single storey brick building along one side of Plaza Fuerzas Amardas, however inside is a 200 square metre lounge that was refurbished in 2015 when the stage moved into a more practical position. The lounge can seat about 150 persons at tables. There are no pillars obstructing a view. The lounge is air conditioned.
La Peña Flamenca de Estepona was founded in 1973, Don Diego Navarro Fernández was the first president. The highlighted artists that have performed at the club over the years includes Antonio Suárez and Antonio Núñez "Chocolate", José Merce, Aurora Vargas, José de la Tomasa, Paco Toronjo, Chano Lobato, Daniel Casares and Eliza Gonzalez.
In the first ‘Concurso Nacional de Cante y Baile' (National singing and dancing competition) in 1984 the Estepona Peña won the title "Estepona Cantadora". Competitions are still held at the Estepona Peña flamenca.
Flamenco Gala
A popular Flamenco Gala takes place every other Friday night with renowned artists. Entrance to the gala costs about 10 to 20€ depending on the artists. Doors open 20.00 hrs and the acts start about 21.30 hrs There are usually two sets of about an hour each. Local tapas and raciones and drinks are served at the tables before and during the interval. The fare is simple and ample portions with social club pricing. The Gala has become popular with locals and tourists alike and advanced booking is recommended especially in the summer and if you want a table near the front to see the footwork. The club sometimes organised for an interpreter to repeat the introductions and announcements in English. The admission fee must be paid at the entrance office in cash, the bill for the table service paid after the performance by card or cash. The Gala is usually full so advanced reservation is essential, call number below to reserve a table.
The peña has a small bar which is open every lunchtime and evening and serves drinks and tapas on the outside terrace.
The Peña Flamenca de Estepona also has a Flamenco Academy offering classes in Flamenco singing, dance, and guitar, and Percussion for children and adults of all levels, with qualified teachers.
