Holy Week, Semana Santa, in Andalucia is an event that literally transforms towns and cities across this region. Processions of elaborately decorated floats with Jesus and Mary statues, groups of pointy-hood wearing Nazarenos (penitents), and shrill brass bands, walk slowly through the streets, from their parish church to the cathedral and back.

The Premios Juventud are awards presented by the American television network Univision. Unlike more traditional award ceremonies, these accolades are designed to celebrate entertainment, pop culture, and the latest trends. Nominees and winners are not selected by a panel of critics or industry experts, but entirely by the public, who vote online for their favourite artists, actors, influencers, and athletes.

The Málaga Marathon 2026 (Generali Maratón de Málaga) which takes place on the 14th November 2026 has become one of the most successful long-distance running events in Spain. Following the record-breaking success of recent years, the 2026 edition continues to offer a fast, flat course that appeals to both elite athletes and recreational runners. Held annually in late autumn, it is one of two major road marathons in Andalucia, alongside the Seville Marathon.

The first edition of Estepona Marathon: there will be two running in 2026. One being a full marathon, and the other, a half marathon. Named as the 'garden' of the Costa Del Sol, these marathons will go through the main streets of Estepona, going past the traditional flower pots, to along the coastline.

Ultra Sierra Nevada is an ultra marathon of 100 kilometres in distance, involving a continuous ascent along paths and tracks from the city of Granada up to the summit of Pico Veleta, followed by a descent to Pradollan, a ski resort in the Sierre Nevada mountain range.

Seville Marathon, the third largest in Spain, with 14,000 runners taking part. It is traditionally held on the third Sunday in February. The Seville Marathon is usually very fast due to the flat course and (often) good weather. Race record is 2 hrs 04min 43 sec. The XL Zurich Marathon de Sevilla will take place on 15th February 2026.

Estepona Summer Feria takes place the first week in July from Tuesday to Sunday and gives everyone a week to enjoy dancing, drinking and eating. Both the day fair and the night fair take place at the 'Parque Ferial y Deportivo' located at the top of Avenida Juan Carlos I next to the A-7 coast road that by-passes Estepona. 

The Marbella International Film Festival has been held annually since 2006. It is traditionally held for a week in mid-September and provides a venue for encouraging artists from all parts of the world.

Marbella / Design and Art is an international (mainly interior) design fair in Marbella which combined with the Marbella /Art fair and Marbella / Design Fair. Marbella / Design was first held in 2018 and takes place in the Palacio de Ferias y Congresos over eleven days in early November.

As one of Spain's major ports during the 16th century, Cadiz copied the carnival of Venice, a city with which it had much trade, and since then it has become the liveliest and most dazzling carnival town in mainland Spain, famous for its amusing and creative characters and satirical song groups.

Religious icons are hugely popular in Andalucia; they are normally handcrafted from wood and porcelain and spend 99.9 per cent of the year in glass-covered alcoves at the local church. Most are dusted down and placed on flower-decked thrones at Easter-time when they are lovingly and solemnly borne through the streets. The Virgen del Carmen, however, has her own special day.

Certain festivals seem to summarise life in Spain, with its love of having a good time in the company of friends and loved ones. The Night of San Juan is definitely one of these events. It is a celebration that is usually held on the beach with roaring bonfires, drink, food, and friends. It is a memorable, almost surreal scene and one that needs to be experienced.

The Starlite Gala is held annually (since 2010) on the first Saturday in August in Marbella at the spectacular open air auditorium and lounge of the Starlite Festival at Cantera de Nagüeles (Nagïeles Quarry on the lower slopes of Sierra Blanca mountain)  The first two editions took place at Villa Padierna Hotel, Estepona whilst permissions to use the quarry were obtained. 

Horizonte Proyecto Hombre is a Marbella-based charity that helps those who are dependent on drugs through rehabilitation and action towards the prevention of drug dependency. The Anniversary Gala Dinner is held every year on a Friday night in April, around the third of the month. The event is held at the Fuerte Hotel in Marbella and is attended by around 250 people each year, many of them older and more traditional Spanish residents.

The Global Gift Gala is a "Night of Philanthropy and Entertainment". A charity fundraising gala, it is held in cities all over the world, including Istanbul, Marbella, London, Tokyo, Abu Dhabi   and Paris, to raise money for women's and children's charities worldwide.

The annual Niños de Mariposa (Butterfly Children) Gala is organised in Marbella by DEBRA, the global charity which raises funds to provide respite for the families of EB (Epidermolysis Bullosa) sufferers, and for research into cures, medication and treatments. The gala held at Aloha Golf Resort.
