Cúllar - Las Vertientes

Las Vertientes is a small farming hamlet in the municipal district of Cúllar, in the comarca of Baza. It sits on the Plateau of Chirivel, of the Altiplano (‘High Plains’) of Granada. It is located to the south of the Sierra de Maria mountain range. The old N-432 crosses the village from east to west and the A-92N motorway bypasses the village just to the north. Junction km 78 and km 80 are the west and east entrances respectively. The population of the village is around 200.

Bull Run

The Gaucin bull run, better known locally as the Toro de Cuerda, takes place every year on Easter Sunday. With the first bull released at around 10:30am, an early arrival is strongly encouraged to find your bearings, and more importantly, some good spots to see the run from. Parking can be found on the outskirts of the town and be careful with taking your car into the town as the streets can get very narrow.

Tohqa restaurant, Puerto de Santa Maria

This one-Michelin-star restaurant was housed in a converted convent near the Guadalete river. TohQa opened its doors in 2020, earned its Michelin star in 2023 and closed in October 2025.

High Street Stores

The most popular clothes outlets in Spain are Mango and Zara; every Spanish woman has several pieces from these stores in their wardrobe. They’re reasonably priced, reasonable quality, and fast to catch onto the latest trends. Larger towns and cities will have several branches; Zara also does interiors and children’s clothing.

Olula del Río - History

The earliest traces of settlements found in Olula del Río are from the Neolithic and Copper Ages. The period of Al-Andalus was the most significant for the primitive town, which was located on the bank of the river in a difficult area to access, on a rock known as La Piedra Verde Olula. During this period, the area was abundant in fruit, olives, vines and, above all, mulberry trees for the cultivation of silk.
