Discover Andalucia
The Costa Almeria
One of the lesser-known costas
The coastline of the province of Almería is a contrast of wildlife nature reserves, sunny beaches and some lively tourist destinations.
If you take the coastal road along the south eastern coast of Almería you will discover one of Spain´s most unspoiled landscapes set in the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park.
It is perfect for nature lovers and photographers with dramatic scenery, rock formations and desert landscapes set by the shimmering water of the Mediterranean and its whitewashed villages.
You can start either from the village of San Miguel or from San José and the route is divided into two as part of the road is not open for motorized vehicles.
Festivals in Andalucia
Festival of the Patios
One of Cordoba’s Colourful May Festivals
This blooming marvellous festival offers an unmissable opportunity to see around 50 courtyard gardens, usually closed to the public, whose walls are festooned with brightly-hued geraniums, tumbling jasmine, and brilliant bougainvillea. Such a feast of floral extravaganzas makes a fantastic day.
You can visit the patios of private family properties, convents, and museums over a period of two weeks, including two weekends (10/11 and 17/18 May) – note that most are open 11am to 2pm and 6pm to 10pm. There are also concerts and flamenco performance.

Sombrerería (Hat Shop) Maquedano
Step inside Seville’s most iconic hat shop
Sombrerería Maquedano is one of the traditional retail companies recognized by the city of Sevilla as an “Establecimiento Emblematico”
Although the shop has been located on the famous Calle Sierpes in the centre of Sevilla since 1908, this company has been selling hats in the city since 1896.
Serving both locals and tourists, four generations of headwear experts have helped clients to find the correct style and fit from the range of Panama, Fedora, and classic wide brimmed Andaluz hats.
We sat down with Cristina Vega, the current manager, to hear the story behind the shop's enduring legacy—and which hats people will be wearing at the Feria de Abril.
