Nueva Atalaya, Estepona Eastern districts

Nueva Atalaya occupies the easternmost mountainside end of the Estepona municipality, lying between Calle Cam de Cortes to the west and the Río Guadalmina (Guadalmina River) to the east. Set in the foothills of the Sierra Bermeja mountains, the district is characterised by its elevated residential zones, natural landscapes, tranquil settings, and panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and the campo (countryside). As well as being home to the Atalaya Golf and Country Club, it is known for its hiking and biking trails through the hills and countryside.
Residential areas in Nueva Atalaya
Nueva Atalaya includes a mix of urbanisations, apartments, and independent villas. Monte Biarritz is one of the long-established communities, with properties built from 1998 onwards. Many of the developments in the district are gated private communities, typically with outdoor swimming pools and community gardens, such as Urbanización Dos Hermanos, Jardines de Nueva Atalaya, and Urbanización Atalaya. The latter urbanisations are named after the well-known golf course and club, Atalaya Golf and Country Club.

More recent projects include the Arboleda development (2025), a small community of 18 contemporary villas located beside a protected forest within the Monte Biarritz area. The Oceana Collection consists of several gated communities offering communal areas, an outdoor pool, gym facilities, pétanque courts, and access to a private clubhouse.
Another residential development in the northern part of Nueva Atalaya is the Cataleya Project, an area defined by low building density and a mix of contemporary townhouses and apartments located near Atalaya Golf Club. Launched in 2018, the project consists of three separate gated phases, each with its own communal spaces, landscaped gardens, and swimming pools.

Places of interest
Atalaya Golf Club, established in 1967, is one of the district’s main attractions. It features two courses: the Old Course, with long, open fairways, and the New Rosner Course, with a more technical layout. HOTELS
The main hotel within Nueva Atalaya is the three-star Ona Diana Park, located on Calle Nueva Atalaya. Built in 1996 in a traditional Andalucía cortijo (farmhouse) style, it includes a large outdoor pool and a restaurant, and has been updated over the years.

RESTAURANTS and BARS
Nueva Atalaya offers a broad selection of dining options. The Centro Commercial Diana, on Calle Nueva Atalaya, hosts several restaurants, cafés, and bars such as the Chinese restaurant GuangDong Diana. The Mini India Diana offers a wide variety of regional Indian cuisines. La Huella Asador, celebrates Argentine cuisine and La Cebolla de Cristal (The Glass Onion) Biker Bar, a bar not just for bikers, but one that offers refreshments and foods with a good family appeal. A more recent addition, The Fairway, opened in 2024, offering an extensive range of wines, beers and spirits.
Elsewhere in the district, options include The Garden by La Rosa, on Avenida Picos De Europa 11, offering Argentinian cuisine and excellent steaks as well as vegetarian options, for a taste of Italy try the La Capannina restaurant on Avenida de los Reales 2. One of the best loved family-run Argentinian restaurants since 2008 is the Asador Tehuelche Argentino Grill, located within the countryside of Atalaya on the Carretera de Behahavís (A-7175).
And if looking for breakfast or brunch in a welcoming café, try the Amara Café situated in the El Marqués urbanisation on Calle Pico de Alcazaba.

Centro Commercial Diana offers a range of services, including Diana Supermercado, a Chinese goods store (hardware, stationery, DIY, gardening), two hair and beauty salons—Ana María Peluquería y Estética and Pepe Moreno Hair and Beauty—a clinic, a dental practice, and a laundry and dry-cleaning service (Lavandería Tintorería Diana). The centre is located just off the A-7 on Calle Nueva Atalaya.
Mercadona, a Spanish-owned supermarket, is located on Calle Pico Alcazaba.
The Repsol Atalaya 24-hour fuel station located on the roundabout connecting the A-7 and the A-7175. It provides fuel, AutoGas, electric charging, a convenience store, an ATM, and an Amazon Locker.
