Benamara - Estepona districts

To the east of Saladillo, is the quiet and mainly private residential district of Benamara, defined by quiet streets and residences within walking distance of discreet beaches. Benamara is adjacent to the A-7, a major coastal road, which connects it to the towns of Estepona, San Pedro, Alcántara, Puerto Banus, and Marbella. The district lies between two streams flowing down from the mountains; the Arroyo de la Cabra and Arroyo de dos Hermanas.

Beaches

The coastal area of Benamara offers a quiet beach with uninterrupted views across the Mediterranean Sea to Gibraltar and Morocco, framed by a lush backdrop of local trees and greenery. The dark sandy beaches in this area such as Playa de Saladillo (Saladillo Beach), are easily accessible to visitors in Benamara, and are typical family beach with good amenities, including free parking, toilets, and showers, and most are accessible to people with disabilities. The beaches are popular with locals and tourists and are good locations for snorkelling, scuba diving, and fishing.

Residential areas

The Benamara district is mainly residential with privately owned villas, and town houses. There are some luxury complexes such as La Perla Blanca described as one of the largest beachfront complexes across the whole of the Costa del Sol as well as the Benamara Urbanisation located on the outskirts of a small, protected pine forest.

Places of interest

Within the Benamara community there is a quaint two-story chapel with an image of the Virgin Mary. Local people often come to pray and light candles at the Capilla De Nuestra Sra De Benamara (Chapel Of Our Lady Of Benamara). On the mountain side there are several popular golf courses and Benamara is close to Selwo Adventure Park.

Hotels

Just off the A7, lies the Globales Paraiso Beach hotel, a recently renovated four-star hotel with a range of leisure facilities such as two swimming pools and a casual dining restaurant. In addition, there is the Senator Banús hotel offering a wide range of luxury rooms, penthouses, gym and a spa catering for all visitors needs including those travelling with pets.

Restaurants and Beach Bars

With a selection of restaurants located in the hotels, and the choice of chringuitos located along with coastline, visitors are not short of a range of casual and formal dining. For those looking to taste some international cuisines try the Turkish restaurant, Çeşme Bazlama Kahvaltı Marbella along the Calle de Isla Verde or the Chinese restaurant Yiu and Gabo, just off the Benamara Avenue in Calle de la Rosa. For those looking for some local tapas try the Pool Bar, conveniently located along the public access to the beach. In the neighbouring district of Saladillo there are many other food and refreshment choices.

Transport

In addition to the car options available at Malaga Airport and Gibraltar Airport, there are local car hire companies in Estepona. For visitors not wishing to drive, Estepona taxis and several firms offer private minibus car or limousine transfers to and from the airport and the surrounding areas. Alternatively, Bolt and Uber Apps also work however, you must provide your passport number or another legal identity number to make the booking.

As Benamara is located close to the A-7 coastal highway and within a short distance the AP-7 toll road (this road is typically quieter, but there are multiple tolls along the way in both directions – tolls can be paid in cash, by credit card, or contactless), it is easy to access areas of interest around the Estepona area. Along the coast to the west, these include Sotogrande, Gibraltar, Tarifa and the golden sand beaches of Costa de la Luz. Along the coast to the east, these include Marbella and Malaga. They can also explore the inland villages of Casares and Gaucin on the road to Ronda. Not forgetting the magnificent cities of Seville, Cordoba and Granada.
