Alhama de Almería

Alhama de Almería is the birthplace of Nicolás Salmerón, former President of the Primera República. This is why the town is also known as Alhama de Salmerón, or Alhama la Seca. However, the most important defining feature of the town is its Balneario de San Nicolás (San Nicolas Spa) , strongly valued by the locals, which has hot springs maintaining a temperature of 46 degrees all year round. It has around 3,600 inhabitants.

Berrocal

Berrocal is a charming village of approximately 400 inhabitants, located 305m above sea level in the eastern part of El Andévalo. The Rio Tinto river runs along the west side of Berrocal, between the mountains of Alabarderos, Sierra de Enmedio and Sierra de la Picota.

Mazagón

Mazagón is a low-level resort with a choice of excellent beaches,and is less developed than the next seaside town, Matalascañas. One of Mazagón's best beaches is situated 6km east of Matalascañas, by the Parador Cristóbal Colón. Unusually for this stretch of coast, where beaches are generally more open and exposed, this beach is backed by sandstone cliffs.

History of Láujar de Andarax

Láujar de Andarax occupies a hillside position at 920m. With a backdrop of rocky peaks and dense pine forest, it has stunning views over the fertile plain of the Andarax River. The town is famous for being the residence of Boabdil, the last Nasrid ruler of the Moorish Kingdom of Al-Andalus, who sought refuge in Láujar in 1492 after he was expelled from Granada following the city’s capture by the Catholic Monarchs.

Hot Gazpacho

In a soup pan combine the onion, pepper, tomatoes, garlic and oil and let them stew for 10 minutes. Add the paprika, cumin, pepper and salt and the water or stock. Bring to a boil and cook for 10 minutes more. Add the fried bread croutons immediately before serving. Garnish with mint and serve accompanied by figs and pieces of green pepper and onions.

Almeria Province - Antas

Antas is of great historical interest to visitors; archaeological discoveries like remains from the Bronze Age have been unearthed here. The town has around 3,160 inhabitants.

Copper

Copper is a metal and chemical element with the symbol Cu. Its name derives from the Latin cuprum. It is a soft ductile metal with very high thermal and electrical conductivity. A freshly exposed surface of pure copper has a reddish/orange colour.

Punta Umbría

Punta Umbría is the closest beach to Huelva City and is the most popular resort along the Huelva Costa de la Luz. During July and August it is overflowing with Spanish visitors and it is worth booking accommodation in advance at this time. It sits on the banks of the Río Odiel river estuary and is surrounded by extensive salt marshes, which make up the El Paraje Natural Marismas del Odiel, the most important nature reserve in the area after the Parque Nacional Coto Donaña. It has about 14, 900 inhabitants.

Órgiva

Located in the fertile valley of the Guadalfeo River, Órgiva is the largest town in the western Alpujarras. At an altitude of 450m, Órgiva enjoys a milder climate than many other places in the Alpujarras and is surrounded by olive, lemon and orange groves. Chris Stewart of 'Driving Over Lemons' fame lives nearby and his books have done much to boost the local tourist industry and attract more northern Europeans, mainly from the UK, to settle in the area. At last count, EU expats made up about a tenth of the town's 5,000 inhabitants. Órgiva has a somewhat bohemian atmosphere, as it is also a magnet for those seeking an alternative lifestyle.
